She looked between us and said, “It’s either her or me.”
I couldn’t believe it. My best friend was making me choice between her and the woman who I had fallen head over heels in love with.
I never really believed in love at first sight or soul mates. But the first night Suzy and I went out, we had a connection. It was as if we had known each other our whole lives.
Jamie never gave me a straight answer when I asked her why she was making me choose. It couldn’t have been jealousy, could it? We tried dating a few times, it never worked. We were better just as friends.
We did last a month, that one time. It didn’t end well. We didn’t speak for three months. Watching the hockey playoff wasn’t the same.
Suzy and Jamie were walking toward me. I almost fell over seeing them holding hands.
“What’s going on?” I wanted to ask more but didn’t have the words.
Jamie motioned toward Suzy, “Suzy and I came to an understanding. I give you permission to date her.”
I nodded and opened my mouth to say something, but Jamie added, “Come on. We’re going home.”
As I followed them out to the car, I couldn’t help thinking this wasn’t going to end well either.
