Rings

It’s been almost a year. Life was starting to feel normal again. As normal as it can be after she lost the love of her life. Her restaurant, Monica’s place, was doing good, with her nephew, Ben, taking on more responsibilities.

Rachel had talked Monica into going out, a couple nights ago, with her and some friends. It was the first time since Chandler died. Monica wasn’t sure she was up for it, but she wanted to keep moving forward with her life. In her head, she could hear Chandler telling her to go. She could always go home early if she wasn’t having fun.

To her surprise, Monica did have fun. She couldn’t remember when she was that relaxed. Rachel introduced her to Tom, a salesman in her fashion shop. They talked most of the night.

After she got home, Monica gazed at her left hand and wondered if it was time. Not because she was ready, or even wanted to date. Even when and if she was ready to date, Monica couldn’t imagen ever loving anyone as much as she loved her husband. She decided to sleep on her decision hoping it would be more clear in the morning.

She dreamt of Chandler that night. He sat on the edge of the bed stroking her cheek, and nodding his head. He kissed her forehead before fading away.

In the morning, she sat on the edge of the bed and took a deep breath. Monica said a silent prayer before slipping her rings off of her finger. With a tear in her eye, she kissed them and gently set them in her jewelry box.
