It was buried amongst the trees and brush. Rex would not have seen it if a tree branch didn’t keep banging on the roof every time the wind blew, making a loud thud. Rex took nature walks, sometimes, to clear his head after fighting with Tabby. Or just to be by himself. This was the first time he came this way.
Rex hit the flashlight app on his phone and peeked through the cracked window. Sparce pieces of furniture with shrubbery growing out of it. He kicked off some of the twigs that were clinging to the door. To his surprise, it opened. He stepped in and scanned around.
It looked like it was a nice house once. Maybe somebody’s getaway. Rex snapped a few pictures and left.
It took him almost a year to clean it out, repair the damage and make it look like new.
Tabby was blindfolded as Rex led her to the front of the house. He got down on one knee, and held up a diamond ring before telling her to take the blindfold off.
She nodded, and squealed, “Yes.”
He pointed behind her, “Your wedding present.”
A week later, they moved in.
